Bloom Box – The cheapest Source of Electricity

We have been using non-renewable sources for producing electricity since the day electricity was invented. Though solar cell technology has proved to be efficient, the amount of power produced is very less. Also, the initial costs for producing solar energy are very high. To overcome all these problems a clean, cheap,, renewable, and highly efficient form of electricity has been developed.
The technology has been named “Bloom Box”. By the name it may sound like some generator equipped box. Almost $400 million has been invested for making this possible. The whole concept of bloom box technology is shown in the video below. Take a look

The concept was proposed by K.R. Sridhar, a rocket engineer at NASA. He was developing a device that could produce oxygen in mars. Though the project became a failure, and even though NASA got rid of the mission, Sridhar had other ideas in his mind. Instead of producing oxygen from the device, he tried the opposite by pumping oxygen inside the device. By doing this, he was successful in producing a new fuel cell, which was continuously producing power like a battery.
With this invention, Sridhar knew that if the device was properly developed, he could make it really big. So, he started a new company called Bloom Energy and became the CEO of the company. The video seen above was taken by CBS News in the year 2010. The program was named 60 minutes. Sridhar was forced to take such an interview due to the constant pressure from his million dollar investors.
Basically, the device will have an oxygen intake on one side and fuel on the other. When they combine together inside the device, it forms a chemical reaction and thus produces electricity.
One of the biggest positive attributes of this technology is that it is much more simple in configuration when compared to the usual power line setup. There is no need to build power lines and there will not be any need for burning or combustion. The device has the shape of a small cubic box which can be kept even at your backyard. According to the research done with the device, a single box is enough to bring electricity to a small home. It does not make any noises like a generator and does not produce vibrations or odor.
This technology will clearly overtake all existing power producing systems as it soi going to save billions for the government as well as the common man all over the world.
The estimate for such a project to become possible is said to be more than $100 million. To make such a big investment, the contribution from MNC’s all over the world is needed. Thanks to the hard work of John Doerr, a VC at a company called Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers , a whopping $400 million was raised from companies like Coca-cola, Cox Enterprises, eBay, Google, Staples, Walmart and so on. . The main aspect that led to such a huge funding was the emerging market for clean energy that is worth billions in the future.

Raavanan review- Visually Extra Ordinary

Back Home after watching this years most anticipated movie Raavanan(Tamil,Vikram,Prithviraj,Aishwarya Rai),Mananged to get tickets for the noon show itself. After a long gap,I am a writing a Movie review here.

Raavanan, can be said as the movie for which Maniratnam efforted the most in his career, had an attack before the shoot and after all the long time period of 2 years, Raavan(Hindi) and Raavanan(Tamil ) was able to release in India in 2k+ theaters

Plot( No spoilers,Read On)

Raavanan is the story of the  revenge of Veera(Vikram) against Deva(Prithviraj) who was responsible for the death of Veera’s sister (Priyamani).Veera Kidnaps Deva’s wife Raagini(Aishwarya rai) and the story advances. The movie is a mere adaptation of Ramayanam and Vikram,Prithviraj,Aishwarya Rai,Karthik can be considered as the representation of Raavanan,Rama,Seetha and Hanuman(But Ramayanam is not fully adapted, just has the mere traces in characters and storyline )

Performances

Vikram delivered a mind blowing performance as Veera,he was convincing Physically as well as Performance wise.Hopefully this should the best performance of Vikram till date.

Aishwarya Rai( looked beautiful and sexy)  and Prithviraj would  just pass on performance wise.Priyamani was short but delivered top notch performance.

Why should you Watch Raavanan?

So why should you watch Raavanan? As the promo trailers indicated the movie is visually top class,Photography was being amazing. All the jungle, waterfalls was being taken brilliantly,I wondered whether these places were there in India or not!Lots of scenes especially the hanging bridge scene in the climax  took my breath away.

Positives

1.The movie is a 2.10 hours of visual Feast, you will be glued on to the seats ,eyes wide open just because of the beautiful Visuals taken by Maniratnam,Santosh Sivan and Manikandan.

2.Vikram is at his best,Dialogue Delivery and physical getup makes him perfect for Veera.Prabhu and Priyamani was also good.

3.Songs done by A R Rahman is not great but good to hear.

What didn’t work for Raavanan?

1.The script lacks Completion or Perfection,The intimacy between Veera and Ragini didn’t work that well.

2.Climax could have been much better(Lots of options were there for the climax)

3.Ar Rahman movies always contained great background scores  and  Raavanan rises out as an exception.

Verdict

Dont mind the inital reviews,Just go for Raavanan and you will get 2.30 hours of Visual treat.

3.8/5

(It much deserves 4 star, but the climax, even though not bad could have been better. So 3.8/5)

NB: And the fans association attacks continues(Was not able to hear anything for the first 10 minutes.)

25 years of .COM Boom!

At present (25 years after the first domain(Symbolics.com) being registered) ,most of the domains are taken so that we might depend on Numbered domains in future. All the four letter Domains (Say xcsz.com, yqrt.com etc) are taken and are almost over in the case of  5 letters !

On March 15, 1985, a Massachusetts computer systems firm registered the first .com Internet domain name.

Although Symbolics.com didn’t spark an instant gold rush, the event planted the first seed of a transformation that has changed the world into a Web-fueled digital river of news, commerce and social interaction.

Today, exactly 25 years later, life B.C – Before .Com – is already a distant memory, especially in the tech-centric Bay Area.

“Can you remember what it was like before the Internet, before .com?” said Mark McLaughlin, president and chief executive officer of VeriSign Inc. of Mountain View. “What about the next 25 years? Who can imagine that?”

VeriSign, the Internet security vendor that administers the .com registry, is hosting an event in Washington on Tuesday celebrating the milestone, with former President Bill Clinton scheduled to deliver a keynote address. And on May 26 in San Francisco City Hall, VeriSign will honor Internet innovators at a “25 Years of .com Gala” hosted by comedian Dana Carvey.

In a relatively short time, the dot-com revolution has “woven itself into every nook and cranny of the commercial world,” said Lee Rainie, director of the Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project, a Washington think tank that studies the social impacts of the Internet. “It usually takes technologies a lot longer to insinuate themselves into the basic rhythms of people’s lives.”

But there was hardly a ripple when Symbolics Inc., a Cambridge, Mass., maker of computer systems and software based on research done at MIT, signed up the first .com with Network Solutions, the domain registration firm that was acquired by VeriSign in 2000.

Symbolics founders who were contacted for this story didn’t even remember the event. The assets and intellectual property of the original publicly traded Symbolics Inc. have been taken over by a privately held firm of the same name. The Symbolics.com Web site still exists, but was purchased in 2009 by XF.com, an Internet domain investment firm.

In 1985, only six entities registered a .com, one of six top-level domain names created a year earlier in a reorganization of the early Internet’s naming bureaucracy. At the time, .cor (short for corporate) almost beat .com as the designation for commercial Internet addresses.

Rainie said Symbolics.com signaled the entry of an entrepreneurial spirit to a nascent online world dominated by a “libertarian leftist” class that saw the Internet as a way to “democratize power” and circumvent big powerful institutions like government and big business.

Internet historians believe the Internet would have evolved “very differently if commercial interests had not asserted themselves, particularly at the dawn of the Web, but even in the pre-Web period,” Rainie said.

By 1992, fewer than 15,000 .com domains were registered, but the number would flourish after Web browsers brought mainstream consumers into the World Wide Web and “made it so convenient to navigate,” McLaughlin said.

Since then, .coms have defined the Internet. Now there are 84 million domain names, including 11.9 million e-commerce and online business sites, 4.3 million entertainment sites, 3.1 million finance-related sites and 1.8 million sports sites.

According to a study released today by the Information Technology & Information Foundation, the annual economic benefits of the commercial Internet equal $1.5 trillion, which is “more than the global sales of medicine, investment in renewable energy and government investment in R&D (research and development) combined.”

The Internet should add $3.8 trillion to the global economy by 2020, which would exceed the gross domestic product of Germany, the report said. An estimated 1.7 billion people, 25.6 percent of the world’s population, now use the Internet.

“One can rightly describe the commercial Internet as a general-purpose technology, one whose significance to society should be viewed as on par with the advent of inexpensive steel, the telephone, the internal combustion engine or electricity,” according to the report, “The Internet Economy 25 Years After .Com.”

VeriSign logs 53 billion Web site lookups every day, about the same number handled for all of 1995, McLaughlin said. “We expect that to grow in 2020 to somewhere between 3 and 4 quadrillion,” he said.

How to Enable Right Click while taking Photos in orkut

This was the outcome of a simple thought that came into my mind,Most of the appended applications in Orkut are writen in javascript. As some of you might know,to disable  the “Right Click” in a browser is  the simplest code in javascript and it is given below,Just copy and paste and you can see that your right click is disabled in corresponding browser.

<body oncontextmenu=”return false;”>

Just place this code in your <body>  tag and this is the same JS code written in ORKUT which disables your right click in a browser .Just disable the Javascript in a browser(Mozilla)  taking

Tools>>Options and then uncheck the Enable Javascript option

One problem is that you need to enable Javascript to see the photos,So the solution is that open all the photos(in tabs) which u want to save and then disable the javascript to save the images,It will be working cool!

Ritu-A nice watch-Review

Ritu(Seasons) is the latest movie directed by shyamaprasad and its very much different from his past art movies. As the name indicates its all about Changes acquired by People in different Seasons

“Seasons Change ,Do we?” the theme of the movie adds meaning to it.

Most of the shots taken by shyamaprasad are close-up ones that face dominates the screen,No doubt Ritu is a fresh experience in Malayalam Cinema.Sticks on to the topic from the beginning to end,no masala and other additives.Script and dialogue writen by Joshua Newton deserves special mention,He completed the script living along with youths for around 1 year and his efforts taken are seen in the screen.Songs by rahulraj are really feast to the ears.As far as acting is concerned all the actors especially Rima Kallingal is promising.

Ritu is not a movie for all audiences ,but I think its a must watch for the youth who works in the IT field as it portrays the importance of life and relationships needed between these techies. As any other Shyamaprasad movie Ritu is also marketed poorly,But if Patanathil Bootham is a hit I think this movie deserve a Mega Hit so watch Ritu in your near by theaters.

VERDICT 3/5

Mukesh Kadhakal Book Review.

Five Point some one is now creating trends in between the youth, what about a book which is 10 times entertaining than Five Point Someone ?

All of you might know about the inbuilt humor sense of actor/producer Mukesh,he is very famous for his spot wits and stories, these Mukesh Stories are very much popular among the cine artists and its a fact that most of the cine artists love to hear these Mukesh Stories.Mukesh Stories are built up on a principle(According to himself),No one should get upset by the stories as  all the stuffs are made for fun ,the victim of the story should take it at that sense.

His stories are now available as a book titled MUKESH KADHAKAL(Olive publishers) which I came to read recently,I read the book with some preconceptions that It would be very entertaining, lots of humour etc and  book was on par with my expectations.

The whole book is divided into 3 sections, the section 1 deals with his College life 2nd one is about  when he just reaches the film industry and 3rd one  with his established film career.

The book is molded in different funny incidents from his college life to the film star Mukesh.

Given below is such a funny story from his college life in which he fools a beautiful lady who studied in Fathima College  which is near to S.N college (from  which Mukesh did his degree)

His writing resembles Vaikom Muhammed Basheer’s who was a master teller of simple stories which were  filled with lots of stuffs to laugh at the same time which tickles your brain too,This happens to be the book from which I’ve laughed a lot(Apart from basheer stories like Anappoda,Tharaspecials and all).

MUKESH KADHAKAL is a must read if entertainment is your target. You can buy this stuff at your nearby bookstall at Rs 100.

Bhramaram-A Fresh Experience in Malayalam

Recently I decided to gave a break to movie reviews but after watching Bhramaram I was forced to change  the decision.Watched the movie yesterday  crossing some barriers which I think every Mohanlal Fan should when intended for a first day watch. Thanks for the efforts taken by My friend Abey George who was in Abhilash for reserving the tickets,He called me after reserving tickets for the second show yesterday,But  to the bad luck, film reel was damaged in the second half  and  all the shows  for yesterday were canceled in Abhilash.Anyways I managed to get tickets in JOS PALA for the second show.

Plot

The movie starts Mohanlal coming to the house of one old friend with some intentions and the whole movie length is to seven days after that, the plot is simple ,its a Road Trip to Mohanlals house by Mohanlal and the Old friend(the character done by Suresh menon).I dont want to spoil the freshness of the story by saying more about it.

How is the movie?

If someone asks me this question I will give a one word reply “Excellent”,Very fresh subject and treatment.I doubt any other one apart from Blessey can treat it as the story is of  very small time period(7 days). Most of the scenes are lengthy ones(Some may argue that Passenger is a one day movie, but its a fact that its scenes are small ones and apart from all its  just an average or below average movie).Coming to the cinematography I think Ajayan Vincent did an awesome job,the high range areas and jeep scenes were picturized beautifully .The scene in which mohanalal and suresh menon travels through the city in a taxi(In which camera takes a round over )and the scene in which Mohanlal stops the Lorry  and giving out a whistle we can see his glance of outstanding cinematography.Blessey scripting was that perfect which made the audience glued in the seat with  excited eyes for 2.30 hours.Songs by Mohan Sithara are definitely gonna top the charts in the upcoming days,

Performances

Performance wise I have no words to mention  Mohanlals performance,Such a brilliant performance!Any single scenes aren’t comparable,Expressions came out as a rain from him and the climax scenes are too brilliant to touch any hardhearted person,Nothing other than a national award is expected.Coming to others Bhoomika looked beautiful but hadn’t much scenes to perform,Suresh Menon did an excellent Job,KPSC Lalita was outstanding and even Baby Niveditha was brilliant.

VERDICT

All in all Bhramaram is a must watch movie, watch it in Theaters and experience a wonderful piece of Fresh Cinema which Malayalam haven’t experienced before!

3.8/5

Lesson which I learned today

Sometimes experiences gives us good lessons, sharing such a good lesson  which I gained recently.Sometimes we may get used of substitutes replacing a reputed one ,substitutes may be that (WEAK) or not apt,but once we are working with them ,just work completely with them and don’t try to judge the results, whatever it be!No use of saying “What if it was like that….” (using the reputed ).Live at the present, don’t think about past, future.SO I am trying to make this lesson practical now onwards(In which I think I am weak). Now coming to the reason for this small post,Even though the title is given as “personal website”,there are no personal posts here, while sticking on this thought this lesson came to my mind, owing the Synchronization it  resulted as a post in linjojoson.com

thanks
